Reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reports that Apple's Vision Pro 2, expected in early 2027, will weigh approximately 350 grams — roughly half the weight of the current model — and carry a starting price of $2,499.
The weight reduction is achieved through a new micro-OLED display technology and a lighter magnesium alloy frame. The current Vision Pro's 650-gram weight is widely cited as the primary barrier to extended use.
The $1,000 price reduction signals Apple's intent to move spatial computing from a luxury product to a mainstream consumer device. However, at $2,499, it remains significantly more expensive than Meta's Quest 3S ($299).
Apple has reportedly sold approximately 800,000 Vision Pro units since its February 2024 launch — below initial expectations but sufficient to establish a developer ecosystem. Over 4,000 apps are now available in the visionOS App Store.
The competitive dynamics are shifting. Meta's Quest platform has a much larger installed base (estimated 35 million units) but Apple's Vision Pro offers dramatically superior display quality and computing power.
