Three of the world's largest supply chain operators — Walmart, Maersk, and Nestlé — have deployed AI-enhanced blockchain systems that provide real-time visibility into product provenance, shipping conditions, and carbon footprint.
The systems combine blockchain's tamper-proof record-keeping with AI's ability to analyse patterns and predict disruptions. Products can be tracked from raw material to store shelf, with every handler and condition recorded.
The implementation has reduced supply chain fraud by 34% and improved delivery time predictions by 28% across the three companies. Food safety responses have been the most dramatic improvement — product recalls that previously took weeks now take hours.
Consumer-facing transparency is the next frontier. All three companies plan to offer QR codes on products that link to full supply chain histories, allowing consumers to see exactly where their food came from.
