The augmented reality glasses market has reached an inflection point, with Meta, Snap, and Xreal shipping a combined 8 million units in Q1 2026 — a 340% increase from Q1 2025.
Meta's Ray-Ban Meta glasses lead the market with 4.2 million units sold. The glasses, which offer AI assistant capabilities, live translation, and basic AR overlays, have found a mainstream audience by prioritising fashion over technology.
Snap's latest Spectacles (2.1 million units) target creators and developers with more advanced AR capabilities. Xreal's Air Ultra (1.7 million units) focuses on personal entertainment — essentially a private cinema screen you wear.
The combined market is on track to ship 40 million AR glasses in 2026, approaching the scale of the smartwatch market in its early years. Analysts predict AR glasses will become as common as wireless earbuds by 2030.
