Cloud gaming subscriptions have surpassed 100 million globally, driven by improvements in streaming quality and the growing cost of gaming hardware.
Xbox Cloud Gaming leads with 42 million subscribers, followed by Nvidia GeForce Now (28 million), Amazon Luna (18 million), and PlayStation Plus Premium's streaming tier (12 million).
The technology has matured significantly. Input latency — the delay between pressing a button and seeing the response — has been reduced to 15-25ms on fast connections, approaching the 10-15ms of local gaming.
The model has found particular success in developing markets where $500+ gaming consoles are prohibitively expensive but high-speed internet is increasingly available.
